Abstract

The Greens reacted to the unflagging German debate on patriotism in their own humorous manner. In this photo, Stefan Wenzel, faction leader of Alliance 90/The Greens in Lower Saxony, presents a make-your-own Christmas ornament cut-out sheet in front of the Lower Saxon state parliament [Landtag] in Hanover. By cutting and folding the sheet, one could make a German flag Christmas ornament in the national colors, black, red, and gold. The message on the bottom of the sheet reads: “Christmas in Lower Saxony – Now Even More Patriotic!” The Greens also added these instructions: “Now, glue, scissors, and a bit of skill are all you’ll need to fashion your own personal patriotic statement out of our colorful pre-printed form.”
