This report on the 2014 Munich Security Conference, an annual conference on international security policy held in Munich since 1963, reflects Germany’s changing role in the international community. Both Federal President Joachim Gauck and Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen address the expectations of the international community regarding Germany’s contribution to international security and acknowledge the need for more German engagement.
