Abstract
This early nineteenth-century scene of middle class dancers enjoying an impromptu swirl in a park is notable for its simplicity and air of naturalness. The dancers’ clothing reflects the influence of the then-popular Empire style, which brought simpler, less confining silhouettes. Wood engraving by an unknown artist, c. 1810.
