Abstract

Romy Schneider and Horst Buchholz were two of the leading idols of West German cinema in the 1950s. Below is a scene from the filming of the popular romance “Montpi” (1957). The film, quite risqué for its day, was a huge box office hit because it responded to a widespread need for escapism. Photo by Benno Wundshammer.
