Germany boasts a great and diverse number of theaters, operas, and concert halls. The following clip was produced to accompany the 2018 nomination of Germany’s theaters and orchestras to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It explores the history of Germany’s performing arts, the reasons for their continued popularity, and highlights some of their main characteristics, among them the great number of publicly financed cultural institutions.
