Abstract

On September 28, 1990, shortly after the ratification of the Unification Treaty, Chancellor Helmut Kohl received the President of the Commission of the European Community (EC), Jacques Delors, in the Federal Chancellery in Bonn. During this meeting, they discussed the impact of Germany unity on European politics and on Germany’s relationship with its European neighbors, some of whom (Poland, for example) were apprehensive about reunification. The map they are holding up shows the countries of the EC – the Federal Republic is already shown with its post-reunification borders.
