Abstract

Portrait of the writer Berthold Auerbach (1812–1882), author of numerous novels. With his Village Tales (1844), a collection of stories about the simple rural life, the widely read novelist became an important representative of realism in Germany. Engraving included in “The Universal Portrait Gallery” of famous men and women of the nineteenth century, 1865.
