Abstract

The Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (ASF) is a German peace organization established in 1958 to confront the legacy of Nazism. The service has been organizing international volunteer service exchanges with many countries, including with Israel. ASF volunteers in Israel have worked with a variety of social service projects, including programs supporting Holocaust survivors in assisted living facilities, or programs dedicated to historical and political education, for example at the national memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. Before military service was suspended in 2011, conscientious objectors could also complete their alternative civil service with one of the international ASF programs. In this video a volunteer shares his experience with the program in Israel.
