Abstract

Since most members of Germany’s older generation don’t know how to use a computer or the internet, they are unable to access certain online services and offerings. Numerous courses and facilities have been established to help them overcome their anxieties and to introduce them to the internet. This web cafe for senior citizens in Rostock is one such example. As part of the project “Ready for the Net” [Reif fürs Netz], students teach the elderly how to use PCs and surf the web. The concept was developed by the students themselves in cooperation with the Institute for New Media in Rostock. Photo: Bernd Wüstneck.
