Abstract

This poster advertised another one of Carl Hagenbeck’s human zoo exhibits (Völkerschauen) staged at the Berlin Zoo. This show featured indigenous people from Ceylon (today’s Sri Lanka) along with animals such as elephants and zebus in order to present a replica of the “natural environment.”
