Abstract

In this excerpt from an audio recording of an event organized by the Bundesstiftung Aufarbeitung, four women who were arrested, sentenced and imprisoned - some in a Soviet gulag - for political reasons in the Soviet Occupation Zone and the GDR describe their experiences. Their fates are horrifying examples of the arbitrary political persecution within the East German surveillance state under Soviet control during the Cold War.
