The Old Jewish Cemetery in Fürth was established in 1607 and extended several times until the end of the eighteenth century. There had been a Jewish community in the Franconian town since the fifteenth century, which grew to become the largest in Bavaria by the nineteenth century. This colored copperplate engraving by Johann Alexander Boener from 1705 shows several members of the Jewish community in the cemetery. The Hebrew caption at the top reads: “Cemetery in the holy community of Fürth,” the German description at the bottom reads: “The burials of the Jews as they can be seen in Fürth.”
