Marie Juchacz (1879-1956), a Social Democratic representative in the National Assembly, became the first elected female member ever to address a German national parliament when she delivered remarks at the 11th session of the Assembly on February 19, 1919. The same year she founded the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting socially disadvantaged people that exists to this day. This photo shows Juchacz as a member of parliament delivering a speech at a 1930 SPD election rally.
