The Weimar Constitution established a federal parliamentary democratic system with strong states (former federal states, Bundesstaaten) that had their own constitutions, parliaments, and administrations. Not only the republic, but also the states [Länder] were structured democratically. This map shows the different Länder  with their respective capitals as well as the Prussian provinces, which functioned like states.
