In 1903, after suffering a nervous breakdown, the eminent sociologist Max Weber (1864-1920) took a leave from the University of Heidelberg to become editor of Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft und Sozialpolitik [Archive for Social Science and Policy], a journal dedicated to social-scientific inquiry. Published from 1904 to 1933, the journal had an enormous influence on the development of social science in Germany. Weber’s co-editors, Werner Sombart (1863-1941) and Edgar Jaffé (1866-1921), were major scholars in their own right. This is the title page from a 1907 journal issue.
