This photograph of three girls eagerly reading a newspaper in front of the Brandenburg Gate was taken on June 23, 1991, the day after the German Bundestag had voted to make Berlin the new German capital. With a vote of 337 to 320, Bundestag members had decided that Berlin, not Bonn, would be the future seat of government. The move from Bonn to Berlin was completed in 1999.
