Abstract

This festive float, complete with Germania, illustrates the insertion of nationalist allegory into the cultural fabric of local and regional festivals throughout Germany. Even in Bavaria, where particularist skepticism about a Prussian-dominated empire persisted for many years, it seemed natural by 1881 that the German Federal Shooting Festival should include such an ostentatious display of national pride.
