Abstract

Until the sixteenth century, church music in the territories north of the Alps was dominated by Dutch (Flemish) composers. Heinrich Finck (1445-1527), who served as court musician to Duke Ulrich of Württemberg and later at the Habsburg court in Vienna, is considered one of the first important German composers. This five-part chorale composed at the beginning of the sixteenth century is based on the tradition of the Gregorian Easter chant.
