Abstract

Allied air attacks not only destroyed apartment buildings and harbor facilities in Hamburg, they also leveled many of the city’s cultural institutions. A KPD slogan can be seen on the side of the ruins of the Millerntor Theater (right): “Working people vote for the party of the people! Vote for the Communists!”
