Abstract

The development of the service economy and the associated erosion of the industrial sector began in the 1960s but did not fully take hold until the 1970s. Office technology was dominated by innovative electronic typewriters until they were gradually replaced by even more efficient computers. This photo shows a cheerful secretary with a new IBM ball-head typewriter. Photographer unknown.
