Abstract

This photograph taken outside Karl Liebknecht House, the KPD party headquarters at Berlin’s Bülowplatz, on the day of the 1930 elections shows the slogans the KPD used during its election campaign. In addition to a portrait of Lenin, a banner running along the entire façade reads: “Against the Young Plan, Mass Hardship, and Fascism. Against the SPD Sellout – Fight with the KPD for Bread and Freedom, for Soviet Germany. Join the KPD!” A number of people have gathered in front of the building. The KPD managed to increase its votes by 2.5% to a total of 13.1%, which made them the third strongest party after the SPD and the NSDAP.
