Abstract
The omnibus – a carriage to carry many people – was one of the earliest forms of public transportation. By the mid-nineteenth century, London and Paris had omnibus systems, which usually consisted of horse-drawn carriages. This photograph shows a motorized version in Berlin, where mechanization transformed transportation along with many other aspects of everyday life.
