Abstract
Sanatoria were popular spots for rest and relaxation. The photograph below shows guests wading in a sanatorium pool in Nordhausen in the Harz Mountains. For those who could afford it, sanatoria offered an escape from the stresses of city life and a chance to commune with nature in the quiet of the countryside.
