Abstract

The number of Syrian people living in Germany, including those with German citizenship, was estimated at around 923,805 in 2022. The Syrian community in Germany is currently the largest Syrian diaspora outside of the Middle East; in terms of age, it is the youngest minority group in Germany. The majority of Syrians living in Germany are refugees from the Syrian Civil War who arrived in 2015 and 2016, when Germany under Angela Merkel’s leadership admitted them during the humanitarian crisis caused by the war. The biggest Syrian communities exist in Berlin and in the Ruhr area.
