Abstract

Composer Johann Jakob Froberger (1916-1667) was employed as court organist at the court of Emperor Ferdinand III (r. 1637-1657) in Vienna. During his tenure he spent several years in Italy in order to study the latest musical developments there. He composed mostly instrumental music especially for keyboard instruments. This piece is a dance suite that reflects both Italian and French influences and would have been played during entertainments at court.
