Abstract

This painting by Daniel Chodowiecki (1726-1801) depicts, in a playful Rococo spirit, an upper-class outing in Berlin’s popular Tiergarten (literally: zoological gardens). Originally conceived as the hunting grounds of the Brandenburg electors, the Tiergarten was redesigned as a Baroque park for the public under Frederick II.
