Abstract

On July 22, 1982, 600 student members of the Free German Youth protested the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon at a solidarity meeting in the East Berlin’s Plänterwald Forest. They voiced their solidarity with the “besieged peoples” of Palestine and Lebanon and demanded the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops. Present that day were Abdel Bakr, a member of the executive committee of the General Association of Palestinian Students, and Nadim Abdul Samed, a member of the Politbüro of the Lebanese Communist Party. Samed put particular emphasis on “proletarian internationalism.”
