CDU politician Monika Grütters was Minister of State for Culture and the Media from 2013 to 2021. She was a co-founder of the “Initiative for Cultural Integration,” which published its 15 theses on cultural integration in 2017. Its aim was to “make a contribution to social cohesion in diversity.” Previously, several CDU politicians had criticized the lack of integration among migrants by propagating a “German leading culture” [Leitkultur]. In this interview with Deutsche Welle TV, Grütters is asked about the definition of being German as well as her view on the challenges of integration.
