Abstract

In the 1920s, jazz became synonymous with America and Berlin became synonymous with entertainment and night-life. Jazz was the sound of the city, both “natural” and modern at the same time. It combined the rhythms of the city with the feel of the exotic, the expressionist and primitivist bound up together.
