This woodcut by Hans Baldung Grien is a good example of the Luther imagery that circulated before and after the Diet of Worms in 1521. Wearing the habit of an Augustinian friar, he is depicted as a divinely inspired holy man. This portrait of Luther was first used to illustrate a Protestant pamphlet and was subsequently reproduced multiple times.
