Abstract

While the basic supply of goods was mostly assured in the GDR, it was much more difficult to get attractive consumer products, including fashionable clothing. This photograph from the spring of 1986 shows a line of customers waiting at the entrance of a state-owned East Berlin clothing store, which also sold fashions for teenagers.
