Abstract

In summer 1995 Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Wrapped Reichstag temporarily covered the famous landmark for two weeks with silver-grey fireproof plastic material. Despite the controversies surrounding the project – it took nearly a quarter century to come to fruition – the final project was a huge success. It turned into a symbol for a new and unified Germany and attracted more than five million visitors from around the world. In this video Christo explains the idea behind the artwork.
